Next Tuesday, March 15, COPOLAD will take part on a side event organized by Spain entitled “Leaving no one behind”: the EU’s rights-based and development-oriented approach to drug policy in cooperation initiatives.

It will be organized within the framework of the 65th United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). Specifically, the session will address the programs funded by the European Union (EU) and developed by Spain in Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The event, co-organized by the EU, the EU Delegation to Kyrgyzstan, Germany and Paraguay, will address the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the most vulnerable communities, as well as the challenges that this context has on public health and drug policies.

In this framework, international cooperation is presented as a valuable tool to promote an evidence-based approach for effective and balanced drug policies.

Panelists include Merle Kreibaum, Senior Policy Officer of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Eufemia Esposito, Director of the International Relations Service of the Office for Police Coordination and Planning of the Italian Ministry of the Interior, Federico Jose Bartolozzi, Minister at the Mission of Paraguay to the European Union, Cosimo Lamberti-Fossati, Program Officer of the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic. Ernest Robelló, Director of the Central Asia Drug Action Program (CADAP7) and Javier Sagredo, Director of the Cooperation Program between Latin America, the Caribbean and the EU on Drug Policy (COPOLADIII) will be present on behalf of the EU-funded programs led by Spain. The event will be moderated by Joan R. Villalbí, Government Delegate for the National Plan on Drugs of the Spanish Ministry of Health.

The session, which will be held online, will start at 13.10 h (CET time) and will last 50 minutes. Simultaneous translation will be provided in English, Spanish and Russian and registration is free of charge.
