From Monday March 13 to Friday March 17, from 3 to 6 pm (CEST) the COPOLAD III program will develop a course on Open Source Intelligence for analysts of the Financial Intelligence Units of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Open Source Intelligence is the collection and analysis of publicly available information to obtain knowledge in relation to a desired objective.
The objective of the course is to provide specific competencies to use in the most effective and timely manner the methods, tools and techniques to search for publicly available information on multiple platforms.
Public and Valuable Information
Publicly available OSINT resources can include media, radio, TV, social networks, blogs, forums, publications, and also government reports, statistics, telephone directories, academic sources, unclassified commercial data, and generally any unclassified information, because it is important to remember that information does not have to be secret to be valuable.
Unofficial information can be extracted from every company, even criminal organizations. And in this sense, Osint can give us an important competitive advantage for our investigations against organized crime and money laundering.
The course will be given by Prof. Mirko Lapi, an expert in OSINT and cyber security with 27 years of experience in the Italian armed forces. The course will be attended by 60 analysts from 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
